TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH

#864 NOTRE DAME (-) over North Carolina at 7 PM EST
It’s gut-check time for the Golden Domers. Off back-to-back straight up road losses at Virginia and Duke, Notre Dame needs to dismiss North Carolina in a big way on Monday night. The Tar Heels stumble into South Bend off five consecutive straight up losses and this will be a very difficult trip for head coach Roy Williams’ troops. Let’s take a look inside the numbers.

A quick glance at the Team Stryker Database shows that Notre Dame has dropped seven straight in this series (straight up) including a 76-65 blemish at Chapel Hill back on November 6th, 2019. That revenge motivation will be huge for head coach Mike Brey’s troops. There is a strong conference trend that will provide the assist here too. Since January 14th, 1999, ACC hosts checking in off a blowout loss of 20 points or more own a money-making 42-22-2 ATS record provided they are running the floor against a conference opponent that scoots in off a SU and ATS loss. If our “play on” home team hits the hardwood off two or more straight up losses, this situation jets to a powerful 29-11-1 ATS including a golden 14-0 ATS if they are priced competitively between -6 and +1.5.

Clinging to a 4-14 SU and 7-11 ATS record in its last 18 games, North Carolina is having all kinds of problems on the court right now. Things won’t get any easier for the Tar Heels here. On the road facing an opponent that scoots in off a blowout loss of 10 points or more, UNC holds a soft 16-27 ATS mark. In this role priced as an underdog, the Heels own a woeful 2-10 SU and ATS tally. Even worse, as an ACC puppy carrying a pointspread won/loss percentage less than .500, North Carolina holds a pitiful 8-46 SU and 17-36-1 ATS record including a miserable 4-23 SU and 6-20-1 ATS if the Tar Heels are priced competitively at +6 or less. Please note: This last tightener is on a horrendous 0-16 SU and 0-15-1 ATS run.

The Fighting Irish are probably the best 15-10 SU team in all of college basketball. With six games left, Coach Brey’s boys know they need to win five (straight up) to have a shot at the Big Dance. This revenge victory is an absolute must. Take Notre Dame. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
